Apple Announces MacBook Air with M4 Chip and Price Cut

15 Mar 2025

Apple has officially unveiled the latest iteration of its MacBook Air, now powered by the new M4 processor. This update introduces a fresh sky blue color option and, perhaps most notably, a reduction in pricing. The 13-inch MacBook Air starts at $999, while the 15-inch model is priced at $1,199. Both models are available for order now, with a launch date set for March 12th.

The updated MacBook Air models will feature the M4 chip, which aligns them with recent releases such as the Mac Mini, iMac, and MacBook Pro. Notably, these new models support the connection of two external displays while keeping the lid open, enhancing productivity for users. The design remains largely unchanged, but Apple has upgraded the webcam to a 12-megapixel Center Stage camera, similar to the one found in the current MacBook Pro lineup.

The entry-level 13-inch model comes equipped with an M4 chip that boasts a 10-core CPU and an 8-core GPU, along with 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage. For those seeking more power, configurations are available that include a 10-core GPU (matching the base 14-inch MacBook Pro), with options for up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.

Initial impressions from hands-on experiences with the new M4 MacBook Air indicate that while it retains the familiar MacBook Air feel, the enhancements brought by the M4 chip are notable. The new sky blue color is a refreshing addition, although some users may wish for even more vibrant color options, reminiscent of the hues available on the iMac line.

The introduction of the M4 chip and the upgraded Center Stage camera are considered expected enhancements, with further testing planned for a comprehensive review. While the upgrades may not appear revolutionary, the price reduction is a significant move, especially in light of rising tariffs that have affected the tech industry.

As Apple continues to innovate and refine its product offerings, the new MacBook Air stands as a compelling option for consumers seeking a balance of performance and affordability in the increasingly competitive laptop market.
