Chestify AI, a Ghanaian startup, is using artificial intelligence algorithms to improve radiology.

15 Jun 2023

Ghanaian startup Chestify AI Labs has developed an AI-based platform for diagnosing pathologies on chest X-rays, CT scans, and MRI images. The startup's algorithm is highly accurate and generates abnormality scores and case reports summarizing its analysis results. Co-founded in 2020 by Mustapha Zaidan and Michael Osei-Gyeabour, Chestify aims to address the lack of radiologists and inadequate radiology infrastructure in Africa and the Caribbean. The startup is set to implement its solution in four African countries and two in the Caribbean by the end of 2023. Chestify AI was recently selected to take part in the ASIP accelerator run by Startupbootcamp AfriTech, which will provide additional support and funding. The startup's second product, a B2C mobile platform, will be launched in Q2 2024. Despite facing challenges from medical authorities and professionals, Chestify AI Labs emphasizes collaboration and the involvement of medical professionals in their team.

Speaking about the challenges faced by the startup, Zaidan said that Chestify AI Labs had to overcome suspicion from regulators and professionals when it came to taking its radiology-focused solution to market. He noted that medical authorities and professionals often did not fully comprehend the capabilities of the AI tool.

However, Zaidan emphasized that Chestify AI Labs is not here to disrupt the market but rather to collaborate with medical professionals to bridge the gap in radiology infrastructure. He added that the startup has medical professionals on its team, and they have played a critical role in supporting and guiding their endeavors.

The startup's innovative solution has already gained recognition in the industry. The ASIP accelerator run by Startupbootcamp AfriTech has selected Chestify AI Labs to participate, offering the startup additional funding and support. This recognition is expected to help the startup achieve its goal of becoming self-sufficient by the end of 2023.

With its second product, a B2C mobile platform, set to be released in Q2 2024, Chestify AI Labs is positioning itself as a leader in the radiology industry. The startup's groundbreaking solution has the potential to address the radiology gap in Africa and the Caribbean, providing people in these regions with access to accurate diagnoses and treatment.
