Children to Explore AI World at Inaugural Summit

25 May 2025

In an exciting move to foster digital literacy among Nigeria’s youth, Digital Equity Africa is set to host the first-ever Artificial Intelligence (AI) Summit for Children in Africa, aiming to reach over 100,000 children across Nigeria. This landmark event marks Africa’s debut of a child-centric global AI conference, providing young learners with the unique opportunity not just to consume technology but to create and innovate with it.

A National Movement for AI Education

The summit will kick off in Lagos and expand to Abuja, Kano, and Enugu throughout 2025. Justina Oha, Convener of Kids Tech Fest and one of the event organizers, emphasized the significance of this initiative:

“This is more than a conference; it’s a national movement. We are setting the foundation for African children to understand, own, and shape emerging technologies like AI. From Lagos to Kano, we aim to democratize access to tech education for all children.”

Empowering Children Through Hands-On Learning

Under the theme “Generation AI: Shaping the Future, One Mind at a Time,” the Lagos Kids Tech Fest will feature interactive sessions designed for children aged 6–16. These include hands-on activities, immersive learning experiences, and exhibitions that introduce young minds to the possibilities of AI, coding, robotics, and digital innovation.

Supporting Parents and Educators

Recognizing the vital role of parents and teachers, the event will also host dedicated workshops on parenting in an AI-driven world, cyber safety, career guidance, and incorporating AI into school curricula. These sessions aim to equip families and educators with knowledge and resources to support children's tech journeys.

Building a Lasting AI Learning Community

Beyond the summit, Digital Equity Africa will launch an AI Learning Community targeting 100,000 Nigerian children in its first year. This initiative will provide ongoing mentorship, access to digital learning tools, monthly challenges, and opportunities to connect with a global network of AI educators—ensuring the momentum continues long after the event.

Shaping Africa’s Future

By giving children the tools and confidence to explore AI, Digital Equity Africa aims to nurture the next generation of innovators, creators, and leaders who will shape Africa's digital future. This inaugural summit is a groundbreaking step toward inclusive, accessible, and empowering tech education for Nigeria’s youth.
