Ghana-Based Startup Remoteli Secures £250,000 Pre-Seed Funding for African Expansion.

15 Jun 2024

Remoteli, a Ghana-based tech talent startup, has secured £250,000 (approximately $314,824) in pre-seed funding to scale operations and expand across Africa. The funding round was spearheaded by Jeremie Frimpong, a Ghanaian-Dutch professional footballer who currently plays as a right wing-back for Bundesliga club Bayern Leverkusen. This investment trend mirrors the growing involvement of football stars in supporting tech startups. Notably, in 2023, French football players Aurelien Tchouameni, Jules Kounde, and Mike Maignan participated in a $3 million funding round for StarNews Mobile, an African mobile video network.

Samuel Brooksworth, the founder of Remoteli, identified a critical gap between talented young graduates struggling to find employment and decision-makers within organizations facing challenges in business growth during the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, Remoteli aims to facilitate employment for 1 million people by 2030, driven by its partnership with Jeremie Frimpong. As part of this collaboration, Remoteli’s Pathways project focuses on guiding young footballers whose careers didn’t unfold as expected. By providing training and upskilling support, Remoteli empowers these athletes to explore alternative career paths beyond the football pitch.

Frimpong shares Brooksworth’s optimism and emphasizes his commitment to creating opportunities for individuals in underserved areas. He expressed his belief in Remoteli’s mission, stating, “When Samuel pitched the idea to me, I bought in immediately.” Remoteli’s strategic approach involves bootstrapping and minimal fundraising to foster organic growth. The startup leverages AI-powered software to connect organizations with qualified tech talent, offering project management tools, seamless communication channels, time tracking, invoicing solutions, and customizable features tailored to each organization’s needs.
