Google Workers Upset After Big Layoffs, Rallies Planned.

15 Jun 2024

Google's recent decision to let go of nearly 15,000 employees hasn't gone down smoothly. Some workers are pretty mad, and they're planning to show it.

A group called the Alphabet Workers Union is leading the charge, organizing rallies across the country for January 18th. They say the layoffs were unfair and messed things up at Google. Work is chaotic, people are stressed, and everyone's worried about being next.

Google says they just had to make some changes to focus on new and important things, and that they helped the people who lost their jobs find new ones. But some workers, like engineer Kenneth Smith, say it could have been done with more respect. He thinks Google should've met with people in person instead of sending cold emails.

Others worry that Google doesn't care about its long-term employees anymore. They think the company is just cutting loose anyone who doesn't fit their new plans, no matter how much time they've put in.

With rallies just around the corner, it's unclear how Google will handle this growing anger. Will they listen to their workers and change their approach? Or will things stay the same? Only time will tell.
