Meta launches 'Meta Verified' for Facebook and Instagram in Australia and New Zealand

29 Apr 2023

Social media giant Meta, which owns Facebook and Instagram, has announced the launch of its own subscription service called "Meta Verified". Similar to Twitter Blue, one of the key benefits of Meta Verified is that it allows users to get verified on the platform. Verified users have a blue badge next to their profile name, which has come to represent status. In addition to the blue badge, Meta Verified offers an extra security feature to help legitimate authors fight against fake accounts.

According to a blog post by Meta, users will need to present a government ID to be verified on Facebook and Instagram. The subscription service is currently being tested in Australia and New Zealand for $11.99 per month.

Meta Verified provides various advantages to its subscribers including verified badges, improved impersonation protection, better customer service, and more visibility and reach. Subscribers will also get exclusive features such as stickers on their stories. However, unlike Twitter Blue, the subscription service by Meta does not place a limit on advertising.

Meta Verified was announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a tweet on Sunday, following a similar move by Elon Musk on Twitter. Zuckerberg stated that the service would enable users to verify their accounts "with a government ID, get a blue badge, further impersonation protection against accounts pretending to be you, and direct access to customer support".
