Netflix to Expand African Operations After Success of Local Content Production Ventures.

16 Jun 2023

Netflix, the global streaming giant, has revealed its intention to expand its African operations after the success of its local content production in the region. The company has invested €160 million in film content production in Africa since 2016, generating more than 12,000 jobs in Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa.

The streaming service's decision to expand follows the triumph of its South African show "Blood and Water," which earned critical acclaim in 2020, ranking first in the United States. Netflix's leading African contributor is currently South Africa, with over 170 films, series, and documentaries available on its platform.

The expansion aims to help Netflix establish itself as the dominant player in Africa's market, where there is an increasing demand for local content and rising competition from other streaming services. Furthermore, this move represents a significant investment in Africa's creative industry, providing an opportunity to showcase African stories to a global audience.
