Touch and Pay (TAP) Introduces Contactless Payment for Interstate Travel in Nigeria.

28 Apr 2024

Touch and Pay (TAP), a fintech startup based in Nigeria and a leading processor of micro-transactions in Africa, has announced making interstate travel accessible to the public in Nigeria, starting from the largest city, Lagos, to other regions of the country. TAP was established in 2019 by Olamide Afolabi, Michael Oluwole, and Kabir Yabo, and it was the first Nigerian company to provide payment infrastructure for contactless cards to be used on buses and ferries.

The startup has now expanded its operations by introducing contactless payment cards for interstate travel in Nigeria. TAP is promoting financial inclusion by facilitating micropayments, ranging from 10 cents to US$10. Customers can now pay for their journeys using the Cowry app, even if they are traveling across multiple states in Nigeria. This service is available to all formal and informal interstate travel operators within Lagos.

Olamide Afolabi, the CEO, and co-founder of Touch and Pay Technologies, stated that TAP is proud to be the first service to democratize transportation in Lagos. In the past, bus passengers had to visit ticket counters and interact with attendants to book and pay for their trips. However, with TAP's new service, customers can access the details of their journey, purchase tickets, and select their preferred seats, all from the comfort of their homes.
