YoLa Fresh Secures $7 Million to Upend Africa's Food Supply Chain with Fresh Produce

26 Jun 2024

Moroccan agricultural technology company YoLa Fresh has raised $7 million in a pre-Series A funding round, marking a significant milestone for African agriculture. The investment will be crucial in transforming the fresh food supply chain across the continent.

Africa faces a critical challenge in efficiently delivering fresh produce from farms to consumers. Middlemen often extract substantial profits, leaving farmers with meager incomes and discouraging further production. YoLa Fresh’s groundbreaking platform disrupts this traditional model by directly connecting farmers with retailers and food service companies. YoLa Fresh creates a fairer system that benefits all stakeholders by eliminating intermediaries.

Founded in 2023, YoLa Fresh leverages cutting-edge technology to ensure transparency throughout the supply chain. This increases farmers’ profits, reduces food waste, and provides consumers with fresher, more affordable produce. By tracking each step of the journey, from farm to table, YoLa Fresh empowers both producers and consumers.

The company’s leadership team comprises seasoned professionals with extensive experience in the African tech space. Co-founders Youssef Mamou and Larbi Alaoui Belrhiti bring their backgrounds from companies like Careem, Jumia, and 212Founders. Their vision extends beyond Morocco, aiming to position YoLa Fresh as a key player in Africa’s agritech revolution. They are committed to addressing food security challenges across the continent.

The $7 million funding round, led by Al Mada Ventures with participation from prominent investors, validates YoLa Fresh’s disruptive approach. Investors recognize the potential to enhance efficiency, empower farmers, and create a more sustainable food system. YoLa Fresh joins a global trend of successful fresh produce platforms, including Meicai (China), Frubana (Latin America), and Waycool (India).

With this capital infusion, YoLa Fresh is well-positioned to scale its operations. The company plans to expand its logistics network, enabling more African farmers to deliver high-quality produce directly to consumers. As the demand for fresh, locally sourced food grows, YoLa Fresh aims to play a pivotal role in reshaping Africa’s food supply landscape.
