Mastercard and ChitChat Launch Virtual Cards to Simplify Cross-Border Payments for Zambian Users

22 Sep 2024

In a significant boost to Zambia’s fintech sector, ChitChat has announced a strategic partnership with Mastercard to launch virtual cards designed to facilitate seamless cross-border payments. This collaboration aims to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of international transactions for Zambian consumers and businesses, marking a pivotal moment in the country’s financial technology landscape.

The newly introduced virtual cards will leverage Mastercard’s extensive global payment network to enable users to conduct international transactions securely and efficiently. These cards will offer a convenient solution for both personal and business use, allowing users to make cross-border purchases and payments with ease.

By introducing virtual cards, ChitChat aims to address common challenges associated with cross-border transactions, such as high fees and slow processing times.

Alon Eitan, CEO of ChitChat, emphasized the significance of the partnership, stating, “We are excited to collaborate with Mastercard to bring virtual cards to our users. This innovation will not only streamline international transactions but also contribute to greater financial inclusion by making it easier for individuals and businesses to access global markets.”

ChitChat’s initiative comes at a time when digital payment solutions are increasingly in demand across Africa. The continent’s fintech landscape is experiencing rapid growth, with a rising focus on technologies that address the needs of underserved populations.

The launch of virtual cards by ChitChat adds to the growing array of digital payment solutions available in Africa. Similar advancements are being made by other fintech companies, such as Union54, which also focuses on providing digital cards and payment solutions across the continent.
