The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has announced a strategic partnership with the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH-NHGSF) to register children benefiting from the initiative under the National Identification Number (NIN) system. This collaboration aims to foster inclusive access to the school feeding programme while enhancing transparency and accountability.
In a press statement issued by Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at NIMC, it was confirmed that every child participating in the programme will now receive a National Identification Number. This initiative is expected to streamline the school feeding process and ensure that resources are allocated efficiently and effectively.
"The registration of children into the NIN system will provide a structured and systematic approach to managing the school feeding programme," stated Adegoke. "Linking children's NINs to the feeding programme will create a comprehensive database of school-aged children, thereby aiding in planning and monitoring."
The collaboration aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" agenda, which seeks to transform and improve the lives of citizens through various initiatives. Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Director-General of NIMC, and Princess Aderemi Adebowale, National Program Manager of RH-NHGSF, are spearheading this effort.
NIMC emphasizes that this partnership is not only about registering children but also about ensuring that the benefits of the school feeding programme reach every eligible child. By implementing a digital identity system, the partnership aims to reduce inefficiencies, minimize errors, and promote accountability within the programme.
As the initiative rolls out, stakeholders are optimistic that it will significantly enhance the effectiveness of the school feeding programme, ensuring that children have consistent access to nutritious meals while contributing to their overall well-being and educational success. The establishment of a reliable database will also be instrumental in future planning and resource allocation for similar initiatives across the country.
This move marks a significant step forward in leveraging technology to enhance social services and improve the lives of vulnerable populations in Nigeria.
