Lagos Launches ₦150 Million Agrithon 2025 — Now Open for Applications

08 Jun 2025

Lagos State has officially kicked off Agrithon 2025, unveiling a funding pool of ₦150 million to support 35 innovative agrifood startups across the city. This initiative is part of Lagos’s broader strategy to address food insecurity and promote youth-driven innovation in agriculture.

According to the Lagos State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems, this program is more than just a competition — it's a call to action. With Lagos’s population expected to exceed 30 million by 2035, the city currently consumes 70% more food than it produces, straining supply chains, food costs, and sustainability.

Building on Past Success

Last year, Agrithon awarded ₦100 million to 26 startups. For 2025, the program expands its impact by increasing funding and broadening its focus areas, including:

  • Climate-smart farming techniques
  • Agrifintech solutions
  • Digital agriculture tools
  • Food storage and traceability systems
  • Logistics and market access innovations

Participants must present feasible, impactful, sustainable ideas that meet market needs. The government is especially interested in modern techniques such as hydroponics, aquaponics, aquaculture, and tech-driven agro-processing systems suited to Lagos’s limited arable land and rapid urban growth.

Who Can Apply?

The program is open to young Nigerians aged 18-40 who:

  • Own or lead a startup not older than 5 years
  • Operate within Lagos or have measurable impact in the state
  • Have CAC registration and LASSRA enrollment

Applicants are required to submit an online application along with a pitch deck outlining their solution, market opportunity, innovation, and expected impact.
