TikTok Crosses 150 Million Monthly Active Users in the US, Amidst Mounting National Security Concerns.

29 Apr 2023

TikTok, the popular video-sharing app, recently announced that it had surpassed 150 million monthly active users in the United States, which accounts for almost half of the country's population. This marks a significant increase from the app's 100 million users in 2020.

However, TikTok is facing mounting pressure in the US, with several senators calling for a nationwide ban on the platform. The concern stems from reports that TikTok may be sharing data with the Chinese government, posing a potential threat to national security.

Senate Intelligence Committee Chairperson, Mark Warner, is co-sponsoring a bill that would give the government more power to ban TikTok. He believes that the app's data practices are unsafe for US citizens. Nonetheless, TikTok has spent over $1.5 billion on data security efforts to protect the national security of its users and the country.

The app's increasing user base is a testament to its widespread popularity, especially among young Americans. As a result, a group of TikTok creators and users is expected to protest in Washington against the proposed ban of the app. Despite the mounting pressure, TikTok remains committed to prioritizing its users and the host country's security and is optimistic that a ban will not be necessary.
